I have been asked to share one of our generic developmental approaches for your reflection and consideration. As is usually the case, we envisage a collaborative approach. We are enthusiastic to develop the process and outcomes to ensure it meets your needs. Key aspects of the approach are:
• Overview – asking the right questions, then getting the right answers
Our facilitation and coaching approach will use a tailored “double diamond” framework modified to reflect constraints such as limited time due to urgency and constrained face-to-face interactions due to Covid19. Steps 1 and 2, which ensure we are addressing the right issues and opportunities, will occur as part of the first diamond (weeks one and two); step 3 which develops specific and direct business continuity planning capability will occur in the second diamond (weeks three and four).
Shifting towards an approach which prevents – not just reacts?
• Step1 – Validate the “shape” of your need
We will engage key stakeholders (individually, or in small groups; face-to-face or virtually). This will be done by a straightforward gap assessment – using a survey tool aligned with good practice. (There are several readily available instruments promoted by governments across Australia).
• Step 2 – Validate key decision criteria
Conversations and / or a workshop with senior management will be used to determine agreed acceptable thresholds for (a) “what are your critical products / activities?”, and (b) “how criticality and vulnerability should be gauged on scales of 1-5?”.
• Step 3 – Populating the Plan
Mapping the critical activities and the resources they rely upon is best done by those who manage and undertake those activities. This also is best done in conversation or workshopping – including, when attributing levels of criticality and vulnerability to those resources, the use of “what if scenarios”.
